What do all the numbers mean?

As the news is littered with stories about the giant bailout plan for many of the nations top financial institutions – the presidential candidates prepare for the first debates (in 5 days) – and new poll “numbers” are being released every day.

Of course, as far as the presidential election goes, the only numbers that really matter are those in the Electoral College.

CNN is charting the “likely” outcome of the election through polls taken in each state – you can follow the progress on their “Electoral Map“.

  1. No More Lies says:

All Americans who are making their decision about who should vote for should watch this movie – it’s free to download:

  2. Fred Cassara says:

What happens if there is a statistical tie in the electoral votes of 269 each. Will the same thing happen like the last time in Florida and go thru all the courts?

  3. maddy says:

the vote then goes to the House of Representatives. It’s only happened twice – 1800 and 1824.

Jefferson beat Burr in 1800 (tied)

Adams defeated Jackson, and Crawford (Clay had come in 4th and was therefore not part of the vote in the House) in 1824 – even though Jackson had more electoral and popular votes.
