What is LinkedIn?

What is LinkedIn? I must confess I didn’t know what LinkedIn was until about 4 or 5 months ago. We actually have a blog here at B5media, Business Channel, exclusively writing about LinkedIn. Scott Allen is the author of LinkedIntelligence and I would say he is an expert.
So why in the world am I even attempting to touch this topic in the month of September? Well, right now, that is a secret. I will share more about my reasons for writing about LinkedIn over the next couple of days. You will have to stay tuned to get the full details.
But what I am willing to say to all of my readers here at Interview Chatter is get yourself over to the home page of LinkedIn and set up your account and get to working on your profile.
I want to take a journey this month and understand this online social networking tool. I want to understand how job seekers can use this tool to network themselves into a new job opportunity or business venture. I am looking for some readers to take the journey with me. If you are willing to learn with me, please let me know.
I went out tonight and registered a new account, created my profile (about 90% complete) and connected to some people I know that are already out on LinkedIn. It took me about an hour and a half. I was committed to getting the profile up and published prior to Monday. I want to measure my journey. So I invite you to come along with me this month and discover the value of LinkedIn.
Oh, I almost forgot… I didn’t answer my question – What is LinkedIn? LinkedIn is a social networking tool open to the whosoevers that are interested in networking with business professionals around the world. That is the simplest definition I can give for now. See you tomorrow!

I’m registered, too, Darlene, but need to find out more. I’ll come along on the journey with you.
Hi Mary Emma,
Thank you for your willingness to go on this journey with me. I am one of those people that sets my mind to things and go for them, whether others come or not. But I have learned that all journeys are better when you travel with others! So thank you! I trust that others will join me on the journey through LinkedIn as we move past labor day!! Please feel free to share your thoughts and what you have experienced with LinkedIn as you feel it is appropriate. I just got a thought… How would you like to write a guest post here from the angle of Home Businesses and LinkedIn? Let me know! :)
