What Makes a “Real Writer”?

June 22, 2005 by Anne Wayman

People starting on a freelance writing career often doubt themselves. They aren’t sure when in their profession they can consider themselves professional. Here’s how I see it.

My experience with would be writers tells me that of 100 people who say they want to write, no more than 10 will ever sit down and actually write. Of those only one or two will ever complete the process – that is, finish the draft, do the editing, and submit the piece for possible publication.

It’s my opinion that anyone who completes those three steps, and does so with some consistency, is a “real” freelance writer.

You might want to read The 3 Secrets to Successful Freelance Writing. And you can get a free, downloadable booklet on the same subject expanded a fair amount.

Write well and often!
