In the last blog post entitled, “Do You Have an Elevator Speech?“, I shared about the importance of having an elevator speech prepared at all times. The focus of this blog post is to share some suggestions of things to do after you have shared your elevator speech.

Below is a starter list of things you can do right after you deliver your elevator speech:

  • Ask the person if they have any questions regarding what you have just shared with them.
  • Try to schedule time to have a one-on-one meeting with them to further explain your business.
  • Ask for their contact information like a business card, or phone number or even their Twitter name.

Make sure that you end the elevator speech with an action that needs to be completed by both you and the listener. It is always a good idea to incorporate a “hook” into your elevator speech so that when you finish you speech, you can end with the hook again. It’s a great way to help the listener remember you.

Example of hooks:

  • Your key to developing a successful project plan
  • Let me help you develop a strategy for success
  • Your solution to the daily grind
  • Bringing organization to your business

Another key component to leaving a lasting impression is clearly stating your personal brand while you are making your elevator speech. And part of your personal brand is the inclusion of your hook. Below is a video that shares key information about creating your personal brand.
