I am a big fan of Netbooks/UMPC/Ultra mobile pc and finally I found a small netbook that is under 700USD, small and thin and has enough computing power to do 60-70% of my job. For months I have been going through magazines, stores and websites waiting for a netbook that fit my requirements and at last came Lenovo S10. My post on my new Lenovo S10 is — I have Finally Given in to a Netbook, Lenovo IdeaPad S10.
It has been under three days since I bought the small computer and until now, I haven’t decided what to do with it. The Lenovo S10 comes with Windows XP home edition SP3 but there is no way I am going to use that version. Development tools from Microsoft are not allowed to be installed in the home edition and at the very least I would have to upgrade to Windows XP Professional SP3 version. I am also contemplating on either installing Windows 2003 Server edition, Windows Vista Enterprise or even Windows 7. From the Lenovo site, all drivers especially BIOS drivers were tagged as Windows XP and most probably I would need to retain XP and dual boot with another operating system.
Again, I haven’t decided but would need to soon to be able to utilize my newly bought netbook. I would update you on what I decide to install in the S10.

Vista fucking SUUUUUCKKK!KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
AYIIIIYYAYYAYYAYAYYAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I too just recently purchased the S10 and I too would like to change the OS. I am thinking either Vista or Windows 7 & possibly dual booting with OSX?! At WinHEC, the guy from microsoft had an S10 with Windows 7 running on it and I heard it uses half the RAM of Vista. Just my 2 cents.
I have formatted my S10 and have already installed Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003. I am also installing Windows Vista either Enterprise or Home Premium later. I was thinking of Windows 7 but I don’t have a copy of it yet. :)
I think I am gonna order a new hard drive for mine so that I can pull out the original to keep just in case. When you formatted your S10 did you also write over the hidden partition?(think it’s F:) Just curious if you could somehow format it and keep the partition.
I bet if you looked around enough on the web you might fine Windows 7…or you could wait till the public beta in December!
Windows 7 has lots of promise. Is everything Vista was supposed to be. Also heard that Microsoft will be making a Netbook version of Windows 7 too!
I have since installed Windows 7 Build 7000 on my lenovo Ideapad s10 smooth install doesnt run as quite as fast as it did with xp OEM but def performs to my liking, only had to install couple of drivers etc… i recommend it.
Hey i got a vista home premium with a 2gb upgrade (vista detects 2.5gb!!!) and it runs sooo sweet! It’s the best thing you can do for your s10.. my next upgrade on the the list is a SSD. Good luck and don’t believe the users that use MACs like Ibod Catooga… What type of a name is that anyway? From planet RETARDia for sure.. hehe
I already installed windows vista ultimate in my lenovo s10 with ram upgraded to 1.5GB. It works fine. I can even play dota with it and also run vmware with linux guest OS. Windows Aero is working very cool. I got a base score index of 2.7.
