What to do with Old Blog Posts Tip#11 – Recycle them!

Have you written a blog post that got a lot of comments from your readers?
Do you find a lot of people linking to your post or quoting its content?
Do you notice that an old post continues to get a lot of hits from search engines?
If so, you might have a post worth recycling.
Recycling isn’t the same as reposting.
You don’t want to simply post an old article to your site word for word.
But you might want to consider the following:
- Create a “favorite posts” section above the fold on your sidebar and add links to your most popular posts.
- Write an update to the post and link to the original.
- Write an update to the post and quote from the original.
- Write an update to the post and contradict the original (you can see both sides to an issue, right?)
- Write a brand new post on the same topic from a slightly different perspective.
- Read the comments on the post and write an article in response to what your readers have to say.
- Write an article about the high volume of hits you continue to get on this post – and ask your readers to comment about why that is.
- Ask a guest blogger to write an article on the topic of your popular post, giving their perspective on the subject.
Hits, links, and comments are all clues that you’ve hit on a topic that your readers are intersted in and want to know more about. Don’t be afraid to give them more of what they want!
