Whatever Gets it Done

I was sitting in gridlock traffic coming home work yesterday. I started to daydream….
What would happen if I just got out of my car right now?
What if I just jumped out of my window right now?
What if I walked over to that car beside me and asked for some gum?
Or asked if he had any gum, but then refused it if he offered it to me? What would he do?
Or if I just started jumping up and down on the hood of his car? What would I do if someone just started jumping on the hood of my car?
( I tend to play the what if game most when I’m driving. Don’t tell me you don’t do this. I know everyone does it.)
What if I drove my car off the West Seattle Bridge? Right now. Just drove right off the side. It’s not too far of a fall. Would I survive?
What if somehow I was ejected from my seat in my 2005 Dodge Neon and was left hanging onto the guardrail, dangling over the street below?
How long would I be able to hold on? Would I be able to pull myself up to safety?
How strong do you have to be to hang on to a guardrail? What if no one knew I was there? Would adrenaline kick in enough to let me pull myself up?
Just in case, I went home and did 100 pushups.

The what-if game!!! How did you know that is my favorite pastime?? And I’ve been on that bridge, in that traffic (I used to work at West Seattle Community College) and thought about the possibility of falling off of it during a massive earthquake on more occasion. But really I was more scared by the old Alaskan Way viaduct;)
Great post!!
haha, that was too funny :)
100 pushups? Crap, I’m screwed if I ever am dangling from a bridge or cliff.
I totally play the what if game all the time! But man, 100 pushups? I tried the 100 pushup program and never got above 50 (in a row). I can do 100 if I take break though….
charlotte- they are trying to tear the vaiduct down and rebuild it. ill take nostalgia over safety anyday ;)
i didnt do 100 in a row. wow, you guys have too much faith in me :)
Hey, just found your blog. I’m adding it to my toolbar. I don’t play the “what if” game, but that’s because I keep things like Play-doh in my bag, and play with it while I’m sitting in traffic.
I can’t even go there with the “what if” game when driving on a bridge, or it’s truly Anxiety Attack time.
But I play lesser versions in safer places all the time. Not sure it’s a good thing, but seems to be human nature. Or a least Crab nature.
I play that game all the time.
It’s kind of part of the reason why I love exercise so much and dedicate myself to it to such an extent. It’s always good to be prepared for any possible situation!
Also playing the what if game is good for creativity and expanding your imagination as well as being entertaining:)
I love those cartoons. Keep ‘em coming.
And I don’t care if it wasn’t 100 in a row, I’m still impressed.
LOL. Hey you never know when those muscles might come in handy for more than getting groceries in the house. ;)
For some reason, I always play that game when I’m on the ski lift. What would happen if I jumped off? It’s morbid, I know. lol.
I hate hate hate traffic!!!!!! Oh, and weirdo drivers drive me batty as well (you know, the ones that drive way under the speed limit because they are on their cell phones/putting on make up/eating/etc.)
On a brighter note– Yes, let’s have a puppy play date! Ooh Molly and Henry are so excited! Except maybe it should just be a Rat Terrier playdate, because Molly (the Scottie) is not nice to other doggies (exept Henry).
Hilarious! But am I the only person who does not play the what if game? Loved your punch line!
used to play the what if game in the car, but it’s so eerie thinking about the power you have to actually crash that I would get dizzy and start swerving…
LOL that’s great :)
I play the what if game in my head at work and in traffic all the time. Like what if I just stared at the person in the car beside me and didn’t look away when they caught me? How long would it take before they gave me the finger?
In fact, I’m going to do that tomorrow.
