What’s to become of Installer.app?

July 14, 2008 by J.T Dabbagian

With the advent of the iPhone SDK, as well as the brand new App store for the iPhone, a question that comes out of the hole concerns the future of Installer.app, and jailbreaking one’s iphone in general. Will users see a point in jailbreaking and risk bricking their iPhone, or will Installer.app go the way of the Newton?

The installer community has said that they will continue to offer apps for people to use on the iPhone, and the developer team itself is rather strong. However, as pointed out at WWDC, several developers are switching over to the legit iPhone SDK rather then stay with Installer.app. In the next few days, we will be taking a look at the pros and cons of switching from Installer to the SDK, for both consumers and developers.

Now that we know that the iPhone dev team has jailbroken the iPhone 2.0 firmware, it’s only a matter of time before Installer and the App store are going iHead to iHead. Who do you support?
