Where’s the Love? It’s Just an OS

Deb Shinder shared a feeling about the much advertised and promoted OS dysfunction in a recent issue of VistaNews. She shared her feelings around the Valentine’s Day holiday last week.

But why does Vista inspire such animosity among so much of the neutral or Windows-centric press? Again, people had the same complaints about XP (I know, because I got that mail, too). But they weren’t nearly so vicious about it. Maybe it’s because it’s an election year. Hey, folks – it’s only an operating system, not a presidential candidate.

Here’s my suggestion: if you like Vista, use it. If you like XP better, continue using that. If you like some things about Vista and don’t like others, provide feedback to Microsoft so they can address your problems. If you hate Vista and XP and all things Microsoft, uninstall them and install Linux or buy a Mac.

Now, I realize you might not have a choice about what operating system you use at work, but that’s an issue you’ll have to take up with your boss. All I know is that if I bought a computer that had an OS installed that, after using it for a while and giving it a fair chance, I really disliked, I’d fix the problem by changing it. In fact, that’s exactly what I did with my EeePC that came with Linux.

That’s exactly how I feel about the situation. I’m running XP and I’m happy. My wife is running Vista and she likes it. My boss is running Vista and likes it, but absolutely abhors Office 2007 if that tells you anything.

I completely agree with Deb as well on this, if you don’t like Windows then change your OS. If you don’t like Microsoft change to Mac or Linux. If nothing makes you happy, then just format your hard drive and enjoy your typewriter.
