Who exactly are you hiring?

Recently, I was helping one of my interns brush up her resume. To find out more about her, I ‘Googled’ her.

I got to her Facebook page pretty quickly, and was surprised to find some of her ‘racy’ pictures of her partying public. I wasn’t surprised she had such photos, but surprised she was dumb enough to allow them to be viewed by anyone.

I used to tell interns to make sure their voicemail was professional. If people have inappropriate messages on their voice mail systems while they’re applying for jobs, that also sends a message.

Now I need to advise them on their Internet pages.
