Who Will Stand Out in the Senior Bowl?

Last year’s draft was pretty amazing. I mean, when you have so many rookies playing significant roles in the playoffs, you know that the draft was star-studded.
Next year is shaping up to be similar. A ton of players decided to come back for a senior season, leaving next year’s class of seniors heavy with talent.
Where does that leave us this year though? With a draft that’s looking pretty pathetic.
No, I’m not saying that this year’s seniors completely suck, and there are definitely some amazing juniors who’ve opted to declare instead of returning to college. But compared to the two years hugging it, this year’s draft seems to be less than spectacular.
What that does mean, though, is that there will be a lot of players who wouldn’t normally stand out actually getting a chance at making it big, and that’s a good thing. Players like Tom Brady have proven that no-namers can sometimes be the best assets to an NFL team if only they are given the chance.
The senior bowl this year will do exactly that – give a lot of no-namers from smaller schools the chance to stand out. I mean, we don’t have the big press quarterbacks or even the d-line stars that we saw last year and will likely see next year, especially because some of the top draft picks will probably be juniors, not seniors.
That doesn’t mean that there’s no talent, though. Just watching the little bit of practice I saw on TV showed me that there are a lot of players from all over the country who didn’t get much mention during the season, but who could be AWESOME in the NFL.
I’m holding back judgement until they play, but I think it will be an interesting game to watch.
