Why I Heart Sports

Tom Brady pocketed MVP. Coach Belichick has Coach of the Year for his mantle. The Celtics beat the red-hot Pistons in Detroit—returning the favor the P’s paid Boston last month.
And that’s only in the past few days.
It’s a good time to be a sports fan in New England. Being cocky about your favorite teams is fun!
What else is it about sports—playing, watching, or both—that gives this bloggerette a rush?
- The gear. It feels so good to give a dirty look to anyone wearing a Yankees shirt. Why, they even used the Sox-Yanks rivalry to stage a fight on the train in Ocean’s Twelve. (Yikes, are we transparent. You can always tell what DVD we watched recently.)***
- The peeps. Hey, the people who play, coach, and watch sports are the reason this blog exists. Better yet is when the gear and the peeps go hand in hand. Why else would we select that very special gray hoodie off the Patriots ProShop web site?
- Roger Federer. Man, the guy is a legend and reason enough to watch tennis. He exemplifies what it means to excel, physically and mentally, in sports. That’s what it’s really all about, folks.
- We. Love. Competition. Among players, among teams, and even among everybody else in spinning class. (Especially those New Year’s Gym Newbies. Grrr . . .)
- Our fellow fans. Come on, you know you’ve done it. We all have: Striking up a convo with a stranger or vice versa because you’re fans of the same team (tipped off by wearing/carrying/displaying a team logo, going public with your fandom at a sports bar, etc.). Normally we’re pretty snotty, but show us a Red Sox parka and we’re willing to break the “ignore-all-strangers” rule.
OK, that concludes your regularly scheduled sports-related blog post.

***Now, this is where we venture into non-sports territory, so now’s your chance to browse elsewhere. Anyone still here? Kewl. See these asterisks in the above, and how they reference what we’ve watched on DVD lately? We couldn’t help but share this treat, which we watched very late Saturday night, from our Looney Tunes collection. If you’re into such silliness, here’s a 7m, 37s cartoon entitled “Back Alley Uproar” that had us in giggles:

Way to give R.Fed. some love!
(Every time I say that, I think of K.Fed and the Spears debacle).
Ah, Erica, I knew you’d appreciate the Federer reference.
Sadly, when I use/come across the term R. Fed., I have unfortunate Britney–K. Fed flashbacks, too.
