Wii Beats PS3 In November

mariostocking.jpgDoes this surprise anyone? Finding a PS3 anywhere this year is kind of like finding Lucky’s pot’o'gold at the end of some kind of gaming rainbow. It just ain’t going to happen. And say, but some magnification of good karma, that you happen to even spot one of these rare (I think they’re a myth really) machines at a bonafide retailer; can you afford the astronomical prices? Worse still, if eBay is your only recourse, can you fork over the cash while wading through the tricksters happy to rip you off?

Yes, the Wii launch has had issues. Yes, the controller strap sometimes sends the Wiimote rocketing off wrists nationwide, but with a price point that’s a third what Sony is demanding, and the promise of restocking before the merry merry holiday season, the fact that Wii consoles are flying off the shelves faster than their more expensive, less available counterpart seems like an obvious conclusion. Nintendo’s Wii saw sales of 476,000 units last month compared to Sony’s 197,000.

Even less of a shocker was Microsoft’s performance, as they topped the sales charts comfortably at 511,000 units sold. 360 deals were everywhere. Games were on sale, console prices were reduced, they were available, they’re (essentially, compared to the Wii) in the same technical range as the PS3…who in their right mind wouldn’t grab one? I have to hand it to Microsoft, they nailed In a pre-Christmas interval that promised to be all about the red and blue, the green made some spot on calculated moves and have come out, in my opinion, none the worse from the launch of its two major competitors. An impressive feat, and one that naysayers and M$ doomsday prophets wouldn’t have believed possible.
