Wii To Support Microtransactions

Reggie Fils-Aime, the President and COO of Nintendo America has confirmed that the Wii will support microtransactions, just as Xbox Live does and the PS3 plans to do as well. In other words: downloadable content.
The downloadable content option will rest solely on the shoulders of the publishers, though. If they want to make their content available for download, the Wii will be waiting to provide the transfer.
Fils-Aime states, “If you’ve gotten to a particular part in a game, we could push content out to you, so you get to battle a new boss. Maybe you get a new artifact; maybe you get a new weapon.”
Such content transfer would be possible using the WiiConnect24 service, “which will also allow the system to function as a server of sorts, opening Animal Crossing towns and other player-specific content to friends without the console being fully turned on.”
