Will Amazon.com Offer Their Own Online Payment Product? No Comment…

Several blogs and news sources around the Net are reporting that sales giant Amazon.com might soon be releasing their own online payment service or system. Its rumored that this may be an alternative to credit and debit cards.

Right now its just speculation as an Amazon spokesperson is telling everyone, “We do not comment on rumors or speculation.”

It seems that the original information came from the Michael Arrington’s TechCrunch blog which is a very reliable source of information. He had this to say,

Look for a launch announcement by Amazon this week or next of a new web service around payments, adding to their S3 (storage), EC2 (virtual server) and other services. They’ve been quietly testing the service, which will compete with PayPal and Google Checkout, for a few weeks. It is an extension of the existing Amazon Payments, which allows third parties selling items on Amazon’s extended network to receive payments from buyers.

I love to see alternatives to plastic!
