Many of you who frequent this website are lovers of the series Gabriel Knight and how can you not be? It has anything that a person could want in a game… be it in the adventure genre or otherwise. It has a dark humor, a special… ambiance, if you will, that many games fail to pull off, no matter how hard they try. There are many people who can accredited to the greatness which is Gabriel Knight, but Gabriel Knight II has a certain specialness around it. Why? Because it was all filmed like you would film a movie. And that’s what makes that game weird. We can give credit to the weirdness of the game to one Will Binder.

Adventure Gaming classic posted an interview that they had with Will over on their website. The interview gives much insight on what went on during the creation of Gabriel Knight II: The Beast Within. Here is but a clip from the interview:

One difference between directing a game and a film is that in a game the director has to be aware of all the different scenarios that may or may not have happened to a specific character because the story (or characters) can go in many different directions depending on the choices the player makes. On GKII for example, something may or may not have happened earlier in Gabriel’s (Dean’s) adventures depending on the choices the player made; making it difficult for the actor to know exactly what he/she’s been through or where he’s at in the story. Because of this, it was tricky at times dealing with the actors and explaining their motivations, state of mind, etc.

If you’re a fan of the series, you definitely don’t want to miss this interview!
