Will Matt Stafford be the starter?

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Now keep in mind as you are reading this story that this is the Detroit Lions organization and even though we want to believe that it is going to be different this time with Mayhew, Lewand, and Schwartz, it has been nothing but the same for 50 years.
Is the Bobby Layne curse really up? Will Matt Stafford take over and make the Lions a winning team?
And just where is Matt Stafford in the depth chart?
Actually, most of us are hoping that is not the real question. Most of us want to keep Stafford on the bench learning his craft, while Daunte Culpepper leads the team. Oh, he can have a series or two along the way, but please don’t just look at his contract and expect instant starter. Bring the man along slowly and develop a real quarterback.

Bring Matt along slowly
For his part, Schwartz is not saying that. He is saying all the right things right now to look competitive.
coach Jim Schwartz said there was no decision on where quarterback Matthew Stafford would fall on the depth chart when the full team returns for more workouts in a couple of weeks.
“It might change every single period,” Schwartz said. “We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. Part of our message has been nobody’s earned a job yet. There’s no status. We have to throw — if you would call it a depth chart — we have to throw groups out there just so we can practice.
“But my message has to stay the same and it’s got to be, hey, you’re going to earn your spot based on how you perform.
