Will MMORPGs Sell the PS3?

John Smedley, the President of Sony Online Entertainment, believes that the Playstation 3 will soon be the go-to console for MMORPGs.

There’s only one hitch in his ambitious observation: Nobody really goes to consoles for MMORPGs. That sweet, addictive plum still belongs to PCs.

Regardless, Smedley is hopeful. From a Q&A with the Seattle Times:

“I think MMOs are going to be a real strong selling point for the PS3 long term — there’s going to be some great ones on the PS3. You’re not going to find “The Agency” on the [Xbox] 360.”

I’m curious to see if Sony will make a go of it. Hey, there was a time when developers assumed console gamers didn’t want to go online at all.
