Win an Animal Planet Nike Shirt and Dog Bowl

Have you been watching Animal Planet’s show Untamed and Uncut?  If not, you’ve been missing out on a lot of action.  I can’t believe some of the things I’ve seen!  Sometimes I’m amazed by the situation but I’m often astounded by some of decisions we humans make.  Two examples are the “Alligator Bites Back” and “Running of the Bulls” clips (click on them to watch the shocking videos!) – one guy gets bit when he hand feeds some gators raw chicken and I don’t think I have to explain how running with the bulls can go wrong!

If this sounds like a show you’d like to see, you can check it out on Animal Planet on Sunday nights at 9pm ET/PT.  You can also watch some amazing footage on the Untamed and Uncut website!

In celebration of the newest season of the show, Animal Planet is giving away an adorable green dog bowl with the network’s logo on it as well as a men’s Nike GolfFIT polo t-shirt or a women’s cotton tee.

Winning a prize is easy!  All you have to do is leave me a comment about an amazing encounter you have had with an animal.  It could be something that happened in your backyard with your dog or when you took that trip and swam with the dolphins.  Share your animal stories and win cool prizes!  See?  I told you it was easy!

The contest ends on July 28, 2009 at 11:59pm PT.  Make sure you leave a valid email address so that I can easily contact the winners.  Good luck!

Well I guess the most amazing encounter would be when I was getting ready for a garage sale one summer and went around the side of the garage to check on something then came back to the front door and a skunk was standing right in front of my door, this was at night and I didn’t notice it until I was almost on top of it, I ran so fast.

I actually did take a trip and swim with dolphins! My father passed away from cancer and soon after my mom, brother and I went to Hawaii to recharge and get away from the stress of it all. When we got there we found out they had a program where you could swim with the dolphins. It was in such high demand that you had to submit your name in a lottery and we were all chosen to do it. It was one of the best experiences of my entire life. It truly was a healing experience. These giant creatures that were so powerful and yet innately gentle. I truly felt cared for like they could sense the pain in me and they just wanted to give love and happiness. I know it sounds corny but it wqas an amazing experience.

Myself and (3) friends went camping last week-end and we all love to see raccoons and all of the other wildlife. We saw lots of deer, a skunk, an owl, some crains – and boy did we see the raccoons! The last night we were there we were surrounded by raccoons they were not afraid of us at all – but they sure frightened us when they started grunting and fighting over our coolers with each other! They grouped together and grabbed our small cooler with pop and chocolate into the woods but they just couldn’t get it open! They got a bag of chips and you should have heard the fight two of them had – like they were saying “it’s mine – no it’s mine” back and forth….its was a bit scary when they got real close to you but it was also very funny and very exciting – they are very unique animals!!!

Animal encounters were pretty common growing up in the Pacific Northwest. We would have deer and elk roaming around through our backyards. I loved waking up in the morning after a fresh snow and seeing a family of deer in the woods behind my house.

I had an awsome encounter one summer. My parents and i took a boat to Captiva Island off the gulf coast of Florida. When we got there we took a walk on the shore. In a split second a couple of wild horses ran out of the woods and ran right in front of us into the water. They were so beautiful! I will never forget this experience. Thankyou :) audreymorgan1971@gmail.com

I am now married, but back when I was dating I had this one boyfriend whom I had been dating for over a year. He had this amazing Black Lab that would actually hold his hand when they went for a drive in his car. I used to think it was the sweetest coolest thing. So, when my boyfriend had to go out of town for work for 2 weeks and asked me to watch his dog for him, I was looking forward to spending some time alone with the dog because I watched with envy the relationship that my boyfriend had with his dog and I was looking forward to spending some quality time alone with this ultra fantastic dog all by myself. So when the dog and I would go out for a drive to run errands, I tried and tried to get her to hold my hand, but no siree, she wouldn’t have it. I felt so bad. So, every now and then during that 2 week period where I was watching the dog I would try to get her to hold my hand, you know, bond with me, but no luck on any attempt. So, it was the evening my boyfriend was returning home and we (the dog and I) are driving to the airport to pick him up and it was like the dog instinctively knew our time alone was coming to an end and in her way of thanking me for taking care of her she started to paw at my right arm as I am driving. I looked at her at the red light, she looked at me with those adorable eyes, and she continued to paw at my arm. So, I thought what the heck, let’s see if she wants to hold my hand and sure enough, she and I held hands, it was a magical moment for me, and her I hope!! As the red light turned to green off I drove, holding hands with the dog, and that is my doggie encounter! Obviously my boyfriend and I are no longer together, but I often wonder how my doggie friend is doing! Okay then, thanks for letting me share and for the opportunity to enter.

At my grandfather’s cabin in North Carolina I saw a mother Black Bear with two cubs in the backyard. They scampered into the woofs.

My dog was nose to nose with a porcupine. THANKFULLY it did not release it’s quills, nor did my dog try to do anything to it besides smell it.

Back in 2006, my husband bought me a chihuahua puppy. At the time we were living with his parents temporarily. Well his dad loves dogs, and that chihuahua puppy would curl up inside my father in law’s shirt and sleep there on his chest…most of the time when we couldn’t find him he would be right there…LOL…eventually he got too big to sit there but it was so cute to see him sittig with him like that. i even took pics of it.

    thanks for the chance-bumbee958@embarqmail.com

My most amazing encounter happened this summer. We were vacationing in Gatlinburg, TN and went on a day hike in the Smoky Mountain National Park. This particular hike was not well used and overgrown, but the prize at the end was a beautiful falls. Along the way we noticed some dung that was obviously not deer, racoon, etc. Shortly thereafter, I heard noises on the hill above us. Looking up, a large brown bear was eyeing us suspiciously. Moments later, her baby cub peeked its head around to see what was going on. It was the most amazing experience to see mamma & baby in the wild with no other humans around. Needless to say, we didn’t stick around long, but it was the highlight of our vacation!!

The only thing I can remember is when we were out west when I was a child, a goat stuck its head into our car window and we didn’t know what to do. Thankfully, it wasn’t my window but it was still pretty freaky!

I think one of the best encounters with a pet is when you see them for the first time. In my experience, looking into their big eyes and falling head over heels for a little ball of fur is truly magic.

  14. Greg says:

I have a brand new puppy. She’s a mostly black with a little bit of white pit bull puppy and is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Waking up with her licking my face every morning is a memorable animal encounter.

  15. Michael says:

We’ve had plenty of encounters, but one of our most memorable was during a vacation trip to Eureka Springs with our puppies… they not only took advantage of the opportunity to go jet skiing with us, they took advantage of the opportunity to ‘meet & great’ some of the local fish! :)

  16. James Rawe says:

Crazy…but this parakeet was purchased at K-Mart many years ago for 99 cents. Quicky became a real talker. He could repeat anything we taught him. He could even say “Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep”…the kicker was that when we went on a vacation a neighbor watched our bird. When we came back his new favorite saying was “Bring Bob a beer” which just happened to be our neighbors name.

  17. Kate says:

Every day I have a lot of fun playing with my bunnies! I especially like it when they lay next to me.

i once had a fox in my back yard and it was a very hot day. the fox was like sticking out his tongue and falling on the ground.so i didnt know if it just needed water or was rabid but i jumped up on my trampoline and stayed till he left i felt to bad :(

  19. prplrush says:

When my sister and i were around 5 and 7 years old, our parents took us to Italy. While there we got to take pictures with tiger cubs, we got to hold them in our arms. We still have the pics now, all these years later, and even though we were really young, we still remember that particular day in our lives.

  20. Sarah Z says:

We just returned from Mexico where we had little green lizards (geicos maybe??) in our hotel room – the kids played with them all day and wanted to bring them home!

  21. Danny says:

My memorable animal encounter is when we were camping in California. We heard the dog yelp and tussle in the bushes. By the time we finally got the lanterns together in order to see what was happening the dog had a rattle snake between his jaws. The rattler had come up upon my father in the dark and the dog had gotten between the two and killed the rattle snake. It was a pretty impressive rescue when we didn’t even know someone needed rescuing!

  22. Linz says:

My animal encounter involved when I was taking a hike along an established trail outside of my town. My friend and I got out of the car and heard a growl. We literally had seconds to get back in the car before a rabid bob cat attacked our car. We called the park rangers and they had to come and shoot the poor thing.

  23. Heather C says:

I was snorkeling in the Pacific and a sea lion and a barracuda decided they would hang out near me.

  24. Jan says:

I was snorkeling in Mexico on my honeymoon and I came face to face with a tiger shark. We were just cruising around and we came around a corner and there staring us down was a tiger shark. I felt like my heart just stopped. We didn’t move and eventually it swam away. It was gorgeous thinking back on it but at the time I was too scared to enjoy it!

  25. Gianna says:

We once saw a very large bear while driving through the woods.

  26. Bridget Combs says:

I took in my ex boyfriends cats when he was ill. I had never been a fan of cats and let me tell you they were the most precious things EVER! They alwats seemed to know my emotions. It was a very bitter sweet moment returning them.

  27. Lily Kwan says:

I remember seeing an extremely large white dog outside a movie theater and thinking how beautiful it was. I joked that it could pass for a pony. ;0D
