Microsoft Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie finally announced during WinHEC PDC 2008 their Windows Cloud operating system named Windows Azure.
I have previously written about Windows Cloud and was excited how it would synch up with Windows Vista. The announcement focused on the architecture of Windows Azure which was being built for open development. In the early stages, only Visual Studio is available for developers but later on it would support Ruby on Rails and Eclipse development platform.
I am sure applications specifically Windows Vista gadgets would be built for seamless integration with applications in the cloud.
Microsoft noted that Office, SQL Services, CRM and SharePoint would be made available in the cloud. It is safe to assume that Windows Vista applications would be able to interface with Windows Azure and maybe, Microsoft would limit this to Vista users and shut Windows XP users out.
