Windows Expert Says OS X Beats Windows

Overall, though, Mac OS X beats Windows. There, I’ve said it. And lightning hasn’t struck me yet.

These words came straight from Preston Gralla, a Contributing Editor to Computerworld.com. He’s a Windows expert with a lot of articles and books about PCs and Windows under his belt. So you know this isn’t just some PC user. This guy KNOWS windows. Yet, at the end of the day he admits after having spent 2 weeks with the Mac OS X, he says it is better than Windows.

Mr. Gralla was given a MacBook Air to try out Mac OS X with. He used it for two weeks and tried most of the tasks he normally does. Mac OS X passes with flying colors. Of course nothing is perfect, he has some things that he does not like about OS X such as the menu of the application is separate from the application window itself. If you minimized an application the menu is still visible on the top of the screen. Small things really.

For a Windows expert to concede and say that OS X is better says a lot. I’m not writing this to gloat about OS X being better, etc.. Rather I wrote about this because I wanted Windows users to know that it’s ok to try OS X. A Windows user can make the transition. There’s nothing to be scared of.

While Mr. Gralla won’t be totally switching anytime soon, he has said that he will be ordering a MacBook Air.

Hm, I have tried Mac, this OS is some kind of monster… It’s fantastic for every day use, MAYBE, but just maybe better than Windows, but on global view of things…there is no way Mac is going to replace Redmond’s child…no way, they are to deep in mind of single guy, hard core marketing during 20 years… I’m waiting to see what will happen’… What do you think?

So you want readers to switch to Macs? Funny, I thought the technology section of this site is suppose to cover all aspects of technology. Not just “Oh, it’s cool, so everyone ought to use it”.

You know, there are Mac users that love using Windows more too, and purposely install Windows on their Macs, because they often only use OS X for a few things too. Have you ever thought about that?

There are people with different tastes, and have tried both. Some like Windows. Some like OS X. I’m not saying one is better than the other, but that people have different taste.

Your post seems to say, “Look! A Windows expert really likes another OS more, so people should switch”. That’s how I would interpret it as.

  3. @Nikola – I agree with your observation that the Mac OS X is great for everyday use. I think that’s what Apple intended it to be. A consumer’s OS. I would recommend the Mac to most consumers as it is easy to learn, use and it just works. It helps manage your digital lifestyle with the iLife suite of applications.

Will it be in enterprises anytime soon? I don’t think so. I don’t think Windows will be going out of the workplace soon. For most corporate uses I think it still has the upper hand. Not because it’s superior but because it’s the OS that most businesses have been using. There’s just a lot of enterprise software built for it that businesses can’t let go of.

@Quikboy – Yes, I advocate for the Mac OS. I’m primarily a Mac writer so of course I would be biased towards this operating system. Yes, the technology section of this site should cover all the other bases and that’s what the other writers are there for.

Regarding Windows installed on the Mac, yes I thought about that. In fact I have Windows on mine but I use it far less than the Mac OS. In fact I only use it to test sites with Internet Explorer. Apart from that I use the Mac OS.

Sure, people have different tastes and I respect that. What I am saying is that don’t be afraid to try the Mac OS because you’re scared you might not be able to use it. Try it out, see for yourself. If you don’t like it, fine. To each his own.

In my opinion though, the Mac OS is a far better system than Windows in it’s current state.
