The revenue of Microsoft Windows as a whole has significantly dropped by 24% in the first three months of 2008 as compared to last year’s numbers.
Microsoft however, said that the decline is only a measly 2% when all the free Vista upgrades and licenses they have given for the past two years is taken into play. Aside from that, Microsoft claims that the strong sales for the early part of 2007 and increase in piracy in 2008 were the responsible for the decline in sales. Microsoft Windows Vista is not taking the blame for the decline in revenues by the client division.
Michael Silver from Gartner blames the decline of windows sales in the decline of PC sales in developed countries and the slow growth sales for computers with higher specifications in developing countries. He said that there is no direct link to Vista and Microsoft windows revenue decline.
