Windows Vista will get HD DVD not Blu-Ray
Despite Hollywood backing for the rival Blu-Ray format, Windows Vista will be compatible with the HD DVD format, Steve Ballmer has said.
The Microsoft CEO spelled out the company’s policy at a press conference in Tokyo. Ballmer believes the Toshiba backed HD DVD is more suitable for personal computers than Sony’s choice of Blu-Ray.
Initially, Vista will not be compatible with HD DVD drives but will receive that facility as early as possible.
The Blu-Ray format has recently been backed by both MGM and Warner Brothers, but Ballmer insisted Hollywood supported both formats.
