Wiped Out!

Wow. I don’t have a complete idea in my head this morning. Not a creative one anyway. I’m hardly beyond “I need another cup of coffee.”

Yesterday I was hugely productive. It was one of those days when words flew off my keyboard. I also handled a bunch of phone calls, an in depth meeting and rounded it out with dinner and trick or treating with my grandkids.

My case of brain fog sort of ties in with the post I did the other day called What’s Your Writing Routine? My experience tells me that once you’ve got a writing routine, that once you’ve got some solid experience writing consistently, the occasional day when your brain fogs over is far from the end of the world.

Waiting for the muse to strike is a sure way to sink a freelance writing career, but recognizing when it’s time to give yourself a break is only sensible. The trick, if there is one, is being totally honest with yourself. You know when you’re procrastinating and when you need a rest or a change.

When brain fog strikes, I get the minimum writing done. Then it’s off to read a novel, have lunch with a friend, or just spend some time sorting papers. Tomorrow I know I’ll be back on track… come to think of it, rest and recuperation is part of being on track isn’t it?

Write well and often,
