Wolf Quest: Edugaming With Blood
Ever wanted to know what it would be like to be Hungry Like A Wolf? A game has come out that does just that, teaching ecological principles and the ins and outs of wolf behaviour.
Developed by the Minnesota Zoo and Eduweb, Wolf Quest even incorporates an online multiplayer version of the game, so that you can team up with friends to form a pack together and learn something about these majestic and highly misunderstood animals. The developer’s have actually grasped the unique opportunities and quirks of the online gaming scene, and grabbed on the idea of episodic content to keep their game fresh and entertaining. In future games, they plan on offering the following:
Explore new areas of Yellowstone National Park, including the Lamar Valley in wintertime and denning grounds during springtime.
- Earn enough experience points and, with your mate, try to take down a bull elk without suffering a killing blow from its hooves.
- Establish a territory for your family pack through raised-leg urination marking, then defend it from other wolf packs through social challenges.
- Fight grizzly bears for control of elk carcasses.
- Find a safe den site and produce a litter of pups.
- Keep your pups healthy and well-fed until they can hunt for themselves.
- Venture away from your territory on risky missions to kill sheep on nearby ranchland.
- Once your pups are old enough, hunt as a pack!
The best part? It’s free, and available for both PC and Mac users. Head over to the official Wolf Quest site to download. Now I did download the Mac version and it was awful. The camera wouldn’t track my wolf, so if I ran offscreen I never found her again, I couldn’t zoom in or out, nor could I go right or left. The only time that I spawned with an elk carcass on my screen, I ran into it and got stuck. Apparently other iMac users have had this problem. If someone else has tried it and gotten it to work properly, please let me know, because this game rocks as a concept, but was horribly disappointing when I got it running.
I bet that Jack Thompson can find a military conspiracy in a game that teaches kids how to hunt, stalk, and kill large game and find a suitable mating partner for the continuation of their genetic line.

it was fine until earlier, then all of a sudden it crashed and hasnt worked sinse!!! has anybody experienced the same or a similar thing? if so please tell me what to do, do i have to re-download it or what?

You don’t need a device for multiplayer cus you can play it on any computer if you have the net connection.

I am not sure if the next episode has multiplayer, it most likely does, but none of us will know until it comes out sometime between may and august this year.

Well, I just downloaded the mac version and I love it! I don’t have any of the problems you had. Did the recently update the game?
Um…whoever it was that said that the one that hasn’t come out yet is Episode 3, you are wrong. It is Episode 2. Don’t argue, I saw on the official website.
Actully Episode 2 comes out next month So I am about to Howl for joy And go nuts just for them to relese it i think they are done with all the beta testing and crap they just want to torment us until they release it.

I know WolfGirl thats what I said. WolfQuest 1 is already out, WolfQuest 2 is coming out in a couple months, and THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS WOLFQUEST 3 YET!
Hey yeah the 2nd wolf quest comes out in october! There will be pups in the second one!
Episode 2 News and Screenshots
We have good news and bad news. The good news is that we are deep in development on WolfQuest Episode 2: Slough Creek, creating new and exciting missions and gameplay. It’s looking great, as you can see by this view of the game world. Click on the caption link to see more screenshots. The bad news is that all this new gameplay is taking longer to create than we anticipated, so we must delay the launch of the game to the fall. We haven’t set an exact date yet, but we are confident that the game will be released this fall, sometime in October or November. We’re sorry for the delay, but we want to make sure that the game looks and plays great when we release it.
Slough Creek Art Contest
Would you like to see your own original artwork in WolfQuest? Here is your chance! Episode 2: Slough Creek will feature player-created artwork to introduce each new mission. Submissions are due on August 30th, so get out your favorite art-making tools, whether in traditional or digital media, and get started! Full details can be found on the contest page here.
Update: Ravens and T-Shirt Contest
Will we have ravens in the next episode? In the last newsletter, we started a contest to sell WolfQuest t-shirts to fund the addition of ravens to Episode 2. If we sold at least fifty WolfQuest t-shirts (or the equivalent in donations) by July 7th, we would add ravens flying above elk carcasses in the new episode.
And the results? We sold 85 shirts! So we will definitely have ravens circling high in the sky to use as a guide to help find elk carcasses. A big thank you to those of you who either purchased t-shirts or donated- your support helps keep WolfQuest going! And you can still feel free to help support WolfQuest by making a donation or buying something from the WolfQuest store. We’re hoping to add more items to our store in the future, so check out the store or read future newsletters to find out details about future store additions.

Hi everyone, I can’t wait for episode two to come out, I really love WQ but what I hate about the multiplayer thing is:
1. You can’t join every pack.
2. Can’t say what you want.
I don’t have any other reasons.

Its said to be coming out sometime this month, or so ive been seeing in many places. I wish they would make more Newsletters, to update us about the progress and such things, its annoying how the last one was in June 17, and you can still see a newsletter from 2007.
