This morning I had the awesome privilege to attend the Women For Hire Career Expo in D.C. The morning began with networking and the highlight for me, founder and CEO Tory Johnson spoke to us and shared nuggets of wisdom. The value of the Women For Hire Career Expo, was the Women networking with women, the excitement, energy and the organizations that were available with real jobs for job seekers.
The organizations represented at the career expo where top notch organizations. From corporate organizations, to government agencies, and small business opportunities. There was also a free small business workshop, and resume reviews. There was something for everyone.
Nuggets from Tory Johnson:
1. Negotiate – Don’t leave money on the table, know your worth
2. Anticipate why you might get a “no” and prepare an answer
3. Past successes to determine future successes – be able to speak about your successes
4. The interview is a two-way transaction – determine if the organization is a good fit for you
5. Follow-up is important – remind them that you are an asset
If you are a job seeker, maybe you have been some job fairs in the past that seemed to be a waste of your time. That is not what you will find at a Women For Hire Career Expo. Here are some upcoming dates. Go and check them out! After you get the job come back and share your story here at Interview Chatter!
