Word Burning Fireplaces and Other Ad Oddities

I was pursuing the real estate listings on my local CraigsList and came across this:

Unit is upstairs and offers word burning fireplace, laundry, parking and tons of character.

I’m not sure what sort of character wants to burn words in a fireplace, but it’s probably not for me.

Several miles from me is a bar with this on its marquee:

Semi-Live Entertainment

I’ve been pondering this one for several years and someone on our forum suggests that “Semi-live performing is when live musicians are replaced by digital instrumentation.” Hmmm, that means they are appealing to folks who know what that means and leaving the rest behind… niche marketing?

Carol, blogger at Writing Junkie has a post with some other, interesting ads she’s seen.

What’s your favorite ad writing gaff or peculiarity?

Write well and often,
