Wordpress.com Marketplace

Lorelle offers us;

“These are ideas put out on the table and Matt and the WordPress.com team is looking for your input, suggestions, feedback, and other ideas. Not many businesses ask their customers and potential customers what they think before preceding with their business decisions. Matt Mullenweg and WordPress has a reputation for talking, listening, before deciding, and then admitting when they screw up.”

And then points out what has become inevitable each time Matt Mullenweg generates an idea – the silly controversy;

“It’s a brilliant idea and I can’t wait to work twice as hard for half of the money (50/50 split with WordPress.com) selling CSS only GPL licensed premium themes to uninformed WordPress.com users and give those themes to everyone else for free because I still wouldn’t be working hard enough to justify my above minimum wage income supported by the generous WordPress blog platform.”

People all wrapped up in themselves make very small packages…

Obviously nothing has been perfected yet as Matt later says;

“I appreciate that our launch partners are taking a risk that they might create a theme and not sell a single one, and the whole thing might tank. If it goes well, though, I fully expect there to be thousands of themes in the system by this time next year, and the people in early will have a significant advantage, much like app developers did on Facebook.”

And my thought is – how many of you will now be willing to move in a new direction in your lives and develop a Wordpress theme? That you can sell for money – of your own.
