The WoW Vault is full of interesting rumors, and this latest one is bound to spur some discussions among World of Warcraft fans. Looks like the latest news bit is the possibility of a World of Warcraft movie.
According to the source:
World of Warcraft: The Movie? Yep, as incredible as it may sound, it looms – potentially at least. We know this because Blizzard Entertainment President Mike Morhaime has spoken of how he “would love for us to release feature-length films in each of the worlds”, letting slip a desire to see Wacraft, Starcraft and Diablo make the move to a new medium in the silver screen. Cor. And indeed, blimey.
Explaining the grand reasoning behind this ‘love’ in a recent interview, Morhaime has said he thinks that “the universes are rich and strong enough to support that kind of thing” and adds that in his mind it would “enhance the connection that players have with the game”. Morhaime also spoke of a desire to see the mainstream appeal of videogames expand and about how he’d like “more people outside of the core audience” to be “familiar with our gaming world”.
Of course, saying that he would love to release a film, and having it actually come to fruition are two separate things, and there’s no way to know, at this point in time, how close – or far – Blizzard Entertainment might be from actualizing these visions. No doubt that a WoW feature film would break records at the box office.
Would you go see it? I know I would.

I would enjoy a Starcraft movie. Warcraft maybe as well. Diablo I wouldn’t care about either way. But tops for me is Starcraft. (It’s not Warcraft in space. It’s…much more sophisticated)
Rental! Well, actually, I’d need to see who the directory is and if there’s a good story and characters first.
In the big scheme of things, the WoW community is rather small. See how well the Doom movie did?
the role of thrall should unanimously go to brad pitt. seriously.
Matt: Maybe you’ll get lucky and we’ll see a Starcraft movie in the works some day :)
Henning: Doom did pretty well at the box office. It was #1 for a while, regardless of how bad I heard it was. But you’re right, it really depends on who they get onboard to make the movie. Regardless, I don’t think the WoW community is particularly small.
Jayvee: You’re an oddball. ;)
WoW on the big screen… all i have to say is it would be heavenly. Regardless of the community size it would still do so great. Warcraft has an incredibly rich storyline if you take the time to understand it and play the games. Surely something like this would easily top or rival LotR or even a Star Wars in my eyes. I can only dream that someday it will come true.
Lee: I agree with you. I think if done properly, this could be an amazing film. Let’s see what comes of this rumor.
