Updating our previous post on Dennis Rodman doing whatever he can to get his name in the papers, he’s not going to be the coach of the new Atlanta WNBA franchise, said owner Ron Terwilliger.

From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Not so fast, said Ron Terwilliger, the owner of Atlanta’s new franchise, which will begin play in 2008. While hiring Rodman would surely drum up national interest in Atlanta’s yet-to-be-named team, Rodman lacks a few essential ingredients Terwilliger is looking for in a coach — starting with sideline experience.

The best nugget comes a little further down, though.

Terwilliger, who was in New York on Friday to meet with WNBA president Donna Orender, said he has interviewed three candidates — both women and men — and hopes to have a coach named by Thanksgiving. The real-estate executive confirmed he has spoken with former Georgia All-American Teresa Edwards, now in her second season as an assistant coach with the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx.

The Atlanta franchise is looking for some WNBA head coaching experience (Brian Winters, anybody?), but Terwilliger said he’d like to have Edwards, a two-time All-American at the Georgia, on the franchise.
