Would You Take $20 Million To Sit Out?

I’ve been asking myself this question all morning. If I were Brett Favre and if I had made such a stink about wanting to play again, if I had single-handedly caused such a media frenzy and whirlwind to circle around Lambeau Field, if I had professed my love for the game in such a manor that it seemed as though nothing could stop me from getting back on the field, would I then do an about-face just for some cash?

I don’t know. $20 million is a lot of money. I’d like to think that I couldn’t be bought off so easily. I’d like to think that my pride ran deeper than my wallet. I’d like to think that all of the mess I had made wouldn’t be all for nothing.

But I’m not Brett Favre. And I have no idea what he is thinking. I just can’t believe that he would give up so easily after fighting tooth and nail for the right to return to the NFL. If Favre takes the money, I think I’ll lose a great deal of respect for him because I thought that this whole thing was more pure than that. I thought that it basically came down to his love for the game. And if that love can be swayed by a few dollar signs, I think I’ll have to question his heart.

He wants us to believe that he wants to come back for all the right reasons. But if it comes down to money, that to me is by far the wrong reason.
