Writer’s Don’t Have To Be Available 24/7

blog.jpgInterview Chatter has a post called: Interview Etiquette? There’s a question posed by a reader then this statement, in part: You don’t create a negative impression by not being available when a recruiter calls.

Substitute writing client for recruiter and you’ve got a truth for freelance writers. You don’t have to be available the minute a potential writing client calls, nor are you on 24/7 call for existing clients unless you’re getting paid a heck of a lot more than your normal rate.

Some clients can be demanding, but most will respond to your firmness about the hours you’re willing to work. It’s often simply a matter of letting them know.

Write well and often,

AMEN! Nowhere is it written that you have to be available to respond during dinner, during your kid’s ball game, during sex…. well, you get the idea. :) We are professionals, not gophers.
