Without a TOC, it&#039;s nearly impossible to ghostwrite a book that your client will be happy with. Working without one is like being told, &quot;I&#039;ve got a picture in my mind. Now paint it.&quot; 

With a TOC in place, you&#039;ve got a great guide to follow. You know you&#039;ve hit all the points your client wanted to cover. You know when to stop! It&#039;s a simple enough request - and a client&#039;s refusal to provide a TOC is the first indication that it&#039;s going to be rough going.
