Eric Buchmen and Steven Begleiter are both cruising with over 27,000,000 chips. Darvin Moon is also in good shape with 23,000,000 in third place, but things aren’t looking good for the lone remaining superstar. Phil Ivey ranks 10 of 14 and only has 7,325,000 left.
Ivey still has a chance, but he faces a steep uphill climb. With 9th place chip stack, Antoine Saout, 3,000,000+ ahead of Ivey, he has a lot of ground to make up. The FullTilt pro got hit up for 1.03 million when Nick Maimone beat his JJ with Q5. Then, his chip stack got rocked again when his JJ went up against QQ.
Another entry you may recognize is James Akenhead. Akenhead got significant airtime in the 2008 No-Limit Hold’em $1,500 buy-in when he finished second. Akenhead also needs to play catchup as he’s in 12th place. Another remaining noteworthy contestant is Jordan Smith. Smith got notoriety earlier in the 2009 WSOP by winning the $2,000 No-Limit Hold’em event. Jeff Shulman has 15 cashes in the WSOP, but no final table finishes to date.
Tomorrow we will know who makes the November 9.
