WWDC 08 Thoughts

WWDC 08 is just a heartbeat away. The excitement and hoopla is reaching fever pitch. Everyone is excited about the impending release of the 3G iPhone. So much so that I predict that if Apple does not come out with the 3G iPhone, nuclear war will ensue.
Here are my thoughts…
3G iPhone, I’m excited for this to finally be announced. Especially since it is set to be available here in the Philippines towards the end of the year, I’m really looking forward to this. Some of the features I really want to see are video chat/conferencing, push email functionality and improved text messaging functions.
I’m hoping that phone companies will subsidize the iPhone. Some people are saying with rebates/subsidy the iPhone’s price will be around the $200 dollar area. That’s awesome. In a country where we’re used to paying somewhere around $400 for smart phones this is a fantastic price point. This will certainly go a long way towards Apple’s goal of selling 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008.
iPhone SDK. New apps will be launched. This one will really cement iPhone’s place as a mobile phone powerhouse. I’m also excited to see what developers come up with. The previews shown before look amazing. Especially the games. So look out for this one.
New MacBook Pros. As much as I love the current design of the MacBook Pro, I’m really excited to see how they can improve it. It’s also really due for a facelift. If it goes the way of the MacBook Air, then I’ll be 50/50. It’s going to be love it or hate it. The current design is a hard act to follow for me. I simply love it. But all things have to change. Apple can’t be caught with stagnant product lines. While the insides have been changed, the outside needs to be replaced as well.
Some people are saying that Mac OS X will be allowed for use with other PCs. I sincerely doubt this. Macs are just gaining market share and doing this now will just cut all the inroads that Apple has made. Macs are really great computers because they work well. That’s a result of Apple having control of both hardware and software. Allowing other PCs to use this will surely make it harder to keep OS X stable.
Apple has really built-up such a marketing hype that every big event is sure to get people on their toes. I can’t wait for WWDC to start!
What are your thoughts on this?

Yes the no news on the MacBook Pro line was a real disappointment. I would think that Jobs would like the whole line updated before the back-to-school wave hits.
Is there a proper venue–upcoming conference or show– that we could hope for a new lineup?
OS aside the hardware in the Pros is probably waiting for new Intel chips. I do not know if the delayed Intel chips, or versions of them, might be influencing the introduction of new Pros.
