Adrian Kingsley-Hughes at ZDNet  has delivered on what lots of people have probably been wanting to hear and see in plain black-and-white hard data.

In a head-to-head battle between Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista SP1, what would the results show between the two combatants.

Over the past few days I posted two sets of benchmarks comparing Windows Vista RTM with Vista SP1.  These posts generated a lot of feedback, and from reading this feedback it’s clear that what many people are really interested in is not the performance differences between Vista RTM and Vista SP1, but between Vista SP1 and XP SP2.

I’ll tell you this, I was shocked by the results. I thought it would be a little bit closer.

You can’t really argue too much with the data though. The question remains, does Vista give you more features and functionality that you’re interested in and can’t currently get in Windows XP?

That’s the decision each customer needs to finalize for themselves.
