XP SP3 3Q or 4Q ‘07

If you didn’t get that, Microsoft’s latest comments on their product life cycle states that a Service Pack#3 for Windows XP probably won’t appear before the 2nd half of 2007. Obviously, that’s well after the expected launch of Windows Vista.
No real details yet on what the SP3 would release upon availability. You can read more about it in these two articles, but not much more there than what’s already been stated.















Maybe I’m just being cynical here but if this is true I’d be surprised to see XP SP3 get released AT ALL. The key here is the release is scheduled for AFTER Vista’s release.
If they are successful in getting Vista out the door they will simply decide that “the customers don’t want it” and kill it off somewhere between the beta and release candidate stage ala Windows NT 4.0 SP7 and Windows 2000 SP5.
