Yahoo! KickStart a Mashup of Facebook and LinkedIn?

In the last week it has leaked out that Yahoo! is going to launch a professional based social networking website that at first glance looks like a mashup of Facebook and LinkedIn.

Yahoo! Kickstart

The concept is that alumni at specific corporations are allowed to invite students and other co-workers to the site. That alumni gains access to your friends and contacts as well. For example, George Jetson works at Spacely Sprockets and is an alumni from the University of Buffalo. George wants to help out some students that are currently going to UB so he is able to reach out to them and invite them to his network. George can view all of your interests, friends, and various other things as well as putting you in contact with other people in Spacely Sprockets.

When you go the Spacely Sprockets page you will be able to access company information as well and anyone that is connected with that company.

Within the company and college pages there will be your individual profile that will include your resume much like LinkedIn but with a more traditional social networking feel including pictures.

This setup is a very tight setup akin to LinkedIn’s model but it also throws in a dash of Facebook with the University Setups. While the site is still in development this has the potential to impact the market, but then again we would be assuming that Yahoo would finally be getting social networking right on some level which they haven’t been able to do yet.

Yahoo has yet again come up with a great concept that is a day late and a dollar short.

Agreed. An even better service is http://www.LeveragedLeads.com. I’m on it and generate real leads and referrals every week.
