Yay! A Pimp Your Work Contest!

649726_dice.jpgI’ve only been posting at Pimp Your Work for a week, and I just thought I’d let everybody know what my plans are for world domination this blog. Plus, YOU need to tell me what you want. If you do, there will be prizes.

Anyway, here’s a list of the stuff I have planned for this blog.

  • Software tips in video – I’m especially planning an “Excel Tips” video series where I’ll walk you through some fun, fun things you can do with Excel. Of course, I’m also going to do the same for other programs as well.
  • Podcasts – I can’t imagine doing this often, but it’d be fun to do podcasts, especially for interviews of well-respected productivity gurus or developers of work pimp software.
  • Reader Work Pimps – I’ll be accepting work pimps and productivity strategies from readers and, if they’re okay, I’ll post them here. After all, we all have different approaches to productivity. Broadcasting your approach will do good and provide others with ideas.
  • Review of the Week – these will be reviews of tools, audiobooks, ebooks, or one of those old fashioned paperbacks. As long as they have anything to do with pimping one’s work, they’ll be featured. I can finally make more productive use of those resources I have lying around.
  • Pimp Your Work comics – cause doing this might be fun. Productivity humor is always good for releasing work-related tension. Laughter is the best work pimp. Also, I love making comics. But these won’t come out too often.

Here’s the contest: Please let me know what you think by leaving a comment. You can say “These ideas suck!” Really. I prefer that over silence. Comment on the type of content you want to see, the blog design – anything! As long as it’s for the improvement of Pimp Your Work.  I’ll pick a name at random, and you get to pick a prize from this delicious honeypot of prizes:

  • a copy of David Allen’s Getting Things Done in PDF format (a $15 value)
  • a copy of David Allen’s Getting Things Done in mp3 format (I forgot how much this cost, but Amazon says $26 and some odd cents)
  • two 250-word articles on any topic of your choice (written by me, a $30 value)
  • a simple, monochromatic or black and white business logo courtesy of Blue Rabbit Media (here’s the portfolio)
  • A PDF book on 101 Romantic Ideas. Hey, if you’ve got a significant other, this book has great tips on how to pimp your romantic gestures without breaking a sweat.

Rules: Only one chance to win per person, although you can leave as many comments as you like. Contest will run until October 15, Monday 12:00am (GMT +8 time). I’ll contact you via the email you leave on the comments form.

Thanks to Kelly, the overlord of the universe my editor, who let me run this contest.

I like your Ideas, one thought is may be some reviews on podcast. maybe some spoofs (pimpcast) help on getting our sites and blogs noticed, some tips for clear concise articles.

  2. Kelly says:

Jeez, flattery will get you everywhere!

This is a great idea, Celine. Good luck!

  3. Doug says:

I’d like to see the blog talk about how to make something that is mundane and average (perhaps like a job in corporate America) more fun and exciting. Getting more out of what you do, doing better at it, getting that promotion, etc. That is what we were thinking when the blog was launched.

Our metaphor was a “Lifehacker for the corporate world.”

  4. Darlene says:

Great idea Celine! Good Luck!! No suggestions yet, but if I come up with something I will let you know!

  5. I want to see lots of productivity comics. I appreciate a good bit of levity in my day.

  6. Shannon says:

I’m gonna do podcasts too. I think it’s a great idea.

I’d also like reviews of products as well.

  7. Anne Wayman says:

oh boy… is it my age? I’m having trouble following all this… maybe it doesn’t matter ;)

  8. Celine says:

Thank you everyone for commenting! :)

whatley: The pimpcast does sound great :) I’m not sure if blog or site promotion is part of PYW’s thrust, but I’ll see if I can work that in.

Doug: Thanks for the metaphor – it makes things clearer. Since I’ve only been on the job for the past two weeks, I’m still fine-tuning my perspective when writing for Pimp Your Work. I’ve been looking over old posts and I’ll keep that metaphor in mind when working on new ones.

  9. I like very much the idea of software tips. I know there are websites which offer such kind of tips and “how to” advices, but if such information is concentrated in a blog like this one (focused on work, productivity, etc.) – I would apreciate it!

As far as the design of the blog is concerned – it is great! It follows the overall theme of other b5media blogs, but still the background of the sidebar is kind of unique to me. Not so many blogs with such kind of background.

To be honest, I made a short examination of the blog with the purpose of making some reccomendations for improvement, but I failed… nothing to catch about. So please, keep the great blog you are running!
