Harold Ramis has enjoyed a lot of great success over the years with films like Groundhog Day, Caddyshack and, of course, the Ghostbusters movies so a lot of people had high hopes for Year One.
It all seemed to be perfect – a great writer, the comedic stylings of Jack Black and Michael Cera, and a decent plot. Unfortunately, critics and movie-goers weren’t bowled over by the finished product but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still worth watching!
In the film, Black is Zed, a hunter, while Cera is Oh, a gatherer. Life is pretty good for them until Zed eats from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and is banished. Oh ends up going with him and the pair embark on a journey through some of the Bibles best-known events. They meet Cain as he gets ready to kill Abel and Abraham, who is getting ready to smite his son, Isaac. Then, it’s almost like they’ve gone on a road trip to Vegas when they wind up in Sodom.
If you don’t find religious humor funny, you are definitely going to want to steer far away from this one. Otherwise, you can pick up the unrated or rated DVD, as well as the Blu-ray version.
