Yogi or Mickey – Who Has Free Wi-Fi?

I’m on vacation this weekend with my family. We’re camping (kind of) but being the blogger that I am I can’t go anywhere without wi-fi right? Looking on the Internet we discovered that the weather this evening might be a little rough so we decided to find a cabin for the first night instead of camping in tents like we hope to do for the rest of the weekend.

Although I didn’t choose the location based on whether or not they had wi-fi, the fact that they did made the decision much easier. After getting here this evening though, I began to wonder if the wi-fi would be available in the cabin, or mainly only up in the ranger station/camp store area. I was pleasantly surprised to find the signal strength was very strong at 54Mbps and no real hoops to jump through to connect.

I was then reminded about the lack of wi-fi during our vacation to Walt Disney World last December. Yogi Bear is giving it to me free at Jellystone Campground in Cave City, KY, but Mickey Mouse doesn’t have any available at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, FL. We paid $40 to sleep 8 for the night with free wi-fi, and about $200/night to sleep 4 with no free wi-fi.

The only thing I’ve seen though is that they warned and are apparently executing bandwidth throttling for over usage. Not sure if what I’m doing is considered over usage, but I can tell you things aren’t snappy. That’s okay though, I’m still happy.
