Air France OnAir: Cellphones on planes

The test subject: an Airbus A318 used for domestic flights. For the first three months of testing, passengers will be allowed to send email and SMS. For the duration of the second three months, passengers will be allowed to make calls for $2.50 above 10,000 feet.
According to Crave, passengers will not know they are on a test flight. That’s funny too because imagine the in flight radio going on announcing “by the way welcome to a special test flight to see whether we can send SMS without crashing the plane.”
Oh, is that for real? That’s too funny to hear cabin crews saying those lines… That’s a serious thing though, having their passengers unaware of the test flight thing.
