In the Philippines, we have a location-based SMS service that alerts family members of your approximate location. The service is not free, but has been used in the past by consumers who want to know where their loved ones are – that and really paranoid boyfriends.

The feature is compatible with most mobile phones — but ironically enough, not with the iPhone, that has by far the best implementation of Google Maps.
