Griffin Earjams review

Recently bought myself a pair of Griffin Earjams for my iPod shuffle. A bit of story here – I was really looking forward to grab myself a set of noise cancellation earphones but that would set me back by a billion dollars. I could have also opted for the cheaper Apple In-Ear ones or the ones by Sony. Thing is, I was still iffy about shelling out more than $60.00.

Thus I opted for the next best thing – pseudo noise cancellation earphone attachments from Griffin Technology. I realize that these aren’t the best earphone solutions out there but they do cost much less, at $14.00 and you have the added satisfaction of knowing that your bundled iPod earphones are still put to good use.

Inside the Griffin blisterpack, I found the pair of earjam attachments and three sets of earplugs that fit depending on your genetic stock. There’s also a small carrying pouch to fit the earphones and the plugs.

Don’t expect the zen of noise cancellation with these though. What the earjams do is enhance the overall bass effect but at the same time reduce the middle and high frequencies. This is good if you’re into R&B and acid jazz. Bad if you’re into pop and rock.

Nonetheless, I noticed an overall volume increase since sound gets funneled into my ear because of the attachments.

So are the Earjams worth a shot? Well, you can’t go wrong with a pair but don’t expect true noise cancellation. Volume augmentation is more like it. If you have a musical ear, you might be disappointed with this (I play guitar and I was expecting more from these, but still no regrets).
