How do you sync the HTC Magic to Mac OS X

I’ve been toying with the HTC Magic and my verdict has been telltale of expectations that were basically preconceived with a “Google OS.” Apparently Android may be too early in its stages to support a couple of things, especially with the Mac. I’ve been having bad trouble trying to do two things:

p1040558

1. First, a total free sync solution to the HTC Magic with my iCal and Address Book. If there existed one, the telco where I got it from didn’t really elaborate on the apps. Apparently, not all Androids are created equal and the version for the Philippines packed into the HTC Magic doesn’t even have the online marketplace or Google sign in. Sad!

2. Second, although my USB port recognizes the HTC Magic as a device and charges it, I can’t use it as a target drive to store data. I can’t even detect the microSD card inside it. Transferring photos and vids can be such a pain.

I’ve Google’d. I’ve even Yahoo’ed. Has anyone found a solution to these?

I’ve been looking for the same thing. Can’t answer the first question yet, but for the USB drive, just pull down the notifications window after you plug it in, and you have to enable mount from the phone.
    Best of luck!

Hmm, been trying to find the same for the HTC hero, but no dice. Nothing for HTC magic (was hoping to find a solution that worked for both)

When you connect your Hero/Magic to your computer, you should see a notification alert on the Hero/Magic asking you to enable ‘mounting’ of the drive on the PC. Select ‘mount’ and you should see the folder on your PC.

You can use http://www.doubletwist.com to sync and transfer your images/music.
And if you sync your ical to your google callender, htc sync that to your mobile via wifi-connection or the 2g/3g.

if you have thunderbird there is an plug-ins to sync adressbook to google https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/7307

I just recently got the HTC magic. I work on Mac and wanted to try this alternative to the Iphone. Initially I was worried due to the fact that I couldn’t sync with my mac until I found the following software…Spanning-Sync-3_0_1 Check out the following blog: http://blog.spanningsync.com/2009/08/index.html
This completely sorts out all sync issues. You must create parallel google calendars and contacts, it then syncs both ways between these, meaning that your HTC android system is synced with you mac os fairly effortlessly.

I had similar issues and wrote a small guide to document my setup, with the hope it can be useful to other Mac users who need to sync their Mac with their Android phone (HTC Hero in my case): http://blog.sosnaweb.net/2009/10/using-google-apps-to-keep-your-mac-and.html

Any comments or suggestions for improvements are very much welcome :-)
