Motorola RAZR2 V8 Review

I’ve been playing around with the Motorola RAZR V8, more popularly known as the Motorola RAZR2 or “RAZR squared.” This unit has been the long overdue follow up to the RAZR series and Motorola deemed it fit to launch the phone in the third quarter of the year in Asia.
The RAZR 2 is thinner than the RAZR bearing the iconic design that its precursors were known for. The camera has been upgraded to 2MP with video capture capabilities. Only one camera is present though, as this phone does not support 3G video calls. The RAZR 2 brings about a huge improvement in the UI speed. It is noticeably faster to scroll through the menu and send SMS.
It is also interesting to note that the RAZR 2 V8 comes with an option for stereo headsets that utilize the micro USB slot or Bluetooth 2.0 compatible headsets.

There doesn’t seem to be a slot for expansion cards. I honestly would have preferred lower internal memory with the trade off of expansion options.
Bottomline
The Motorola RAZR 2 V8 is a healthy upgrade to the previous RAZR V3. It boasts a much faster user interface, a slimmer design, and loads of storage. Those who are looking for 3G or WiFi will definitely be disappointed as the phone only seems to be compatible with the not-so-fast EDGE network. The phone is set to retail for about $150 to $200.00 without contract. If I were you, I’d get the model with the most memory as there doesn’t seem to be the option for external expansion support.

Great design, nothing more. Buggy software, slow menus, UI customisation is limited comparing to earlier motorola models, camera is not soo good, no 3G, no external memory, weak battery. Useless huge external screen because of touch screen limited function (works with player only). Not able to customise side buttons anymore.
I’ve been using Motorola phones for years (V50, V66, T720, V525, V3) and now with v8 I’m quite dissapointed with new (Linux) software. I think this is the last Motorola phone I have.
