Motorola’s “el cheapo” line of mobile phones is generating a lot of buzz with interested buyers. The W230 in particular is popular but has been reporting issues of not being able to do file transfer. Kiran from the community has a fix, which implies upgrading the firmware:
The problem with the fone is that file transfer is possible only when fully charged. I too had this problem. Here’s how to fix it:
Step 1: Install this file
Step 2: Charge the phone fully(the battery image should be green)
Step 3: Restart the Computer.
Step 4: Plug in fone and install the driver.

hello everyone, just bought this fone last week. I had the same problem with everyone. When I connect it to my pc it will disconnect withing 5-10 seconds. I tried charging it to max but still it goes like that. Guess i’d have to settle with a card-reader then.
Good news to everyone. I tried something and it worked.
Insert your USB cable into the back port of your CPU not in the front. I guess it is caused by shortage of voltage in the front USB ports (most of it is shared with)
i would like to transfer songs from pc to my L230 bt whenever i connect my usb cable the pc will display “a problem occurred during installation;. Pls help me?

DOES ANY BODY HAS AN IDEA HOW TO DOWNLOAD MUSIC ON TO THIS STUPID PHONE IT MIGHT BE PRETTY AT THE OUTSIDE BUT ITS A PILE OF SHIT IN THE INSIDE.
I think the problem with linking our w230 to the PC USB lies within the firmware, thought all of us have the same cellphone, not all have the same firmware version, that’s why some can easily connect theirs and some cannot.
So rather than screw my brains trying to figure out how to successfully link this damn thing on my PC, I just bought a cheap china made universal USB mem card reader ($3), took the microSD out of my cell and pop it in the card reader then connect the card reader on my PC, I can now transfer mp3 and pictures…

Hi all, do you know if i can use the w230 in a mac?
it’s simple really, I went rummaging in forums. just go to where your songs are and press the center button. Then select switch storage devices and pick the other one. Make sure you have a memory card in the back of the phone. Plug the phone into the computer with any USB cable (I use the one for my zen or camera) and copy the files to the music folder… hopefully this helps.
pease anyone tell me from which site i can download the software of motoyuva w270 to connect with pc to access internet on it
This mobile supports mp3, but I could not play the files after transfer. could anybody know the solution. I have not yet tried in other formats.

When I attempted to install this .inf file on Windows Vista by right
clicking and
selecting Install, I received the error message “The INF file you selected
does not support this method of installation”.

Hey guys, I have a mac and this device is not recognized by the computer. On the other hand, I plugged the phone to the usb connector that is in the back of the desk pc, it works normal there.
If someone has an idea about how to make it work on a mac, i’d thank it.

FOR USING W230 as GPRS Modem
Install PC charging driver from MOtorola site, then install the modem driver http://timhome.homedns.org/bin/moto_w230_gprs.inf on the Philog serial modem, then create a new Internet connection via modem, phone number +CGDATA . Set in the phone your provider’s GPRS settings. This driver is only for Windows XP. It doesn’t work on Vista.

I have a problem while playing songs in w230..i am able to hear the song for 5min max ..it automatically closes the music player and goes to the home screen..i have 1GB external memory card…wat could be the problem for this ..Any idea???

i am using windows vista….and i connect to the phone and also see the removable driver and the three folders…..but we i drag and drop the MP3 file the process stuck in the calculating time and not proceed further….

transfer of Mp3 files to memory card, use compatible card reader/writer (USB 2.0).(Remove memory card first from phone). Once done, put back memory card inside phone, then switch storage device. its playable from there. Same apply to pics. For messages, store them in memory card instead of phone, then retreive via same as above. try…keep trying.
Hey for some of you the problem might be the computer instead of the phone, like in my case. The drivers in the front of my CPU stopped accepting the USB& I thought the phone had a problem but I hooked it up to a drive at the back of the CPU and it worked.
Exclusiv, I think that that modem driver doesnt work.. i’ve tried on a lot of PC, get the COM3 port, set the additional string, etc. but still doest work.
it always say “error (forget the number) bla bla, something error with modem devices)”.

for the others that having trouble in connecting the phone, i suggest to reinstall the windows, it’s work for me at least..

i have bought this damn phone 2 or 3 days before…my USB was not working so i tried the card reader…the sales man told me first to create a new folder in the new memory card i created a new folder then transferred songs but my phone was not detecting the memory card….plz anyone help me with this problem….my memory card is ok and its working on all other phones….plz solve my problem and contact me on this id:ham_cool_90@hotmail.com
I have the moto W233, which is pretty much the w230 but the case is reused plastic.
I can transfer files no problem, I can set images from the microsd card as my wallpaper and I can set custom mp3 files as ringtones. What I can’t do is tell the music player to select the sd card to look for music, the user manual tells you where the option is, and its not there.

Well you can use the phone to listen the MP3 music and FM Radio. It has external memory slot as well, that can be used to save the music. You can connect your phone to PC using USB cable but that is only to transfer the music files and pictures, and nothing else.
