New Look and Open Source Marketing

October 7, 2005 by Jayvee Fernandez

I’ve been a follower of ad campaigns that make use of the open source marketing technique, which basically empowers consumers to add a personal touch to any product. Examples of these are how those Budweiser commercials have proliferated into indie productions.

New Look has made use of this model and is currently giving off discount coupons via Bluetooth and IrDA from various “pick up points” around the metropolitan UK. Not only are they doing that – they are “empowering” consumers to send in their photos via camera phone to be beamed to mannequins outfitted with an LCD display as a head. See yourself on display wearing a New Look.

As part of the brand campaign, customers were also invited to become part of the New Look window display by having their photo taken through the store window, and pressing a button to display their face on the mannequin for 15 seconds.”
