Nokia 6280 review

Today I’m going to talk about the Nokia 6280, one of the latter slider phone models with an enhanced Series 40 operating system and built-in 3G capabilities. Unlike its predecessor, the 6270, this phone has a lot move value to offer in terms of design, functionability and sturdiness.
Most of the great stuff about the 6280 can be attributed to the way it was constructed – the buttons feel great, the slider isn’t rickety, and the phone fits comfortably like an old shoe. The top half of the phone houses two menu buttons, the 5-way navigation pad and the call and end call buttons, taking up a third of the real estate. The rest is taken up by the earpiece, the VGA camera for video calls as well as the high res 262,000 color screen.
The 6280 is a phone that works. Remember the Nokia 6230 that won so many awards back in 2004 for being hassle-free? Well, the 6280 is like this, having a sleek design with a fast user interface topped with a high quality 2MP digital camera. This is a phone definitely worth considering for long-term use.
The 2MP cam with 8x zoom is impressive, considering that each shot at maximum resolution (1600×1200) takes up around 650kb of space. Given that the phone only has 6MB of internal memory, Nokia has included a 64MB miniSD card in the package.
What I like:
- the phone feels “strong” in my hands in spite of the slider design. The old 6270 was a bit rickety, especially when I was trying to take pictures.
- very soft buttons – defintely one for the record books. It’s one of the nicest keypads I’ve ever held
- Sleek Zen-minimalist form factor
- High quality 2MP camera
What I don’t like:
- 6MB of internal memory is not enough (though the package comes with a miniSD card)
- Wished the camera button was placed in a more convenient place closer to the middle of the phone. The phone is so small which makes taking pics in ladscape mode a bit awkward.

wow, that’s a pretty impressive picture for a camera! although, i’m probably impressed because my personal cellphone is an outdated one — we usually just get whatever’s on promo.
The phone is better than the 6270 in the “sliders” category. It represents one step ahead. It works just fine, like any Nokia cellphone, but the camera is disapointing. I have seen better (also 2 megapixel camera but better quality of the shots). At this chapter, Nokia is still behind Samsung.
This phone does everything you could want and more. Stick a 512mb miniSD card in it, and you’ll have all the storage room you need. The camera isn’t perfect, but it is a phone after all. And no way is this thing big. The only downside is the internal memory is a bit small, but store everything on your miniSD card and you’ll have no problems. IR, Bluetooth, a cable and software included makes it easy to connect to your pc. All in all, a great phone at a reasonable price.
Well does anyone know how to make the red button not turn of the aplaction its on? some games you have to use that button but if you do it turns it strait off!

Well, I have a problem with my 6280. We had a family emergency and my younger sister had to be rushed to a hospital. Evidently, the medical equipment interfered with my phone because immediately, it started displaying “Phone Restricted – Undo Restriction?” I had thought it was a phone-lock problem but upon entering the default codes, the phone displayed “Code Error.” Subsequent efforts to “flash” or “unlock” the phone proved abortive as every engineer I went to told me the problem lacked a solution. Since you seem well acquainted with this phone, are there any codes I can use to reset the phone as I have never taken it to my service provider before? Thanks.
so far this is one of the midend phones that has really good picture quality.
@luckki – im not that well acquainted with it. Nokia should be able to fix it in their Nokie Care program. were you able to?
have you also tried removing the battery / restore factory settings?

I was just wondering does anyone have problems with the bluetooth on the 6280. I purchased the phone two days ago and the bluetooth will not turn on.

your phone must be a lemon. there was no problem with mine when i had it. you better have it checked by an authorized nokia repair center.

Well….The phone is nice overall….but I had problem with network………..It doesn’t show network…..what is the solution ? I will be happy enough if i got the solution for it’s network….
I bought this phone 3 months ago….1 month…it worked well…but after that the network is gone..
I have shown to many repairing centre….but problem does not solve….I have flashed with new firmware 5.92 also…but the problem still remains…
Please send me the solution for this…I think this is not only my problem…..i have seen a lot of comments on this in different forum too.

this phone sucks….if it fell down,unlike others it will broken,,it’s a wonder ,if one of chips didn’t brake..don’t you understand.NOKIA always give less options unlike sony ericsson.but 6280 has lot of features.why they have given its display like sony ericsson,more pixel,qualified colours,like sony ericsson K800i.they given these features because internally it has problms..IT”S A DAMN SOFT PHONE..I TELL YOU MY DEAR BROTHERS..DONATE YOUR DOLLARS TO A BEGGAR,EAT YOU MONEY.BUT NEVER NERVER BUY 6280 ,PLEASE PLEASE

i can not get my 6280 to receive through bluetooth, it gets to 50% and fails anyone no anything about this

It’s an awesome phone. I’ve been using it for over a year now and I haven’t had a problem with it. Been fine for me, and the camera is awesome!
If I had to say there was a problem, I can’t get into the insides of the screen and clean up the dust that’s gotten trapped but other than that, it’s fine!
Its really an awesome phone been using it for a month already.Got 1 problem though,i want to remove the planet 3 restriction,coz’ i can’t change the right soft key its locked to planet website.can somebody help me solve this problem??? -yuri_xero@yahoo.com
Have just got one of these of ebay for £60. First impressions are that it is fantastic for this price. The case is falling apart but I’ll get a new facia for it. Keypad is quite something, nice and quiet with good feedback, camera pretty good for a phone (I’ve yet to see a phone sony ericssons included that gets anywhere near to a digicam), Mp3 player good, radio a great alternative. Menu system is good, looks smart, and well featured. Call quality and reception, battery life all seem impressive.
The downers – the plastic on my case keeps falling off and is rather flimsy, and it does have a tendency to reboot when I want to change profiles. Rebooting takes 5 seconds though so not really a problem.
Finally the lack of memory is not a problem. 2GB mini SD cards are now available for a mere £15!
Sum up, I really like it so far, the build quality could be better but the high res screen, ease of use, and keypad might just make it the best phone I’ve had so far.

I am having problems with setting the time on my 6280. I’ve done everything but still the clock won’t run, when i set the time, it just sticks to that–or it gets back to zero… useless, i can’t even use the alarm! Got any ideas on how to’s–pls. help? What could be d problem?
