Nokia Asia Independent Artists Club (Nokia IAC)

When Nokia introduced the Ovi community, one of their key areas of success entailed building an online community of independent recording artists. When I got a chance to interview them back in September 2007, the Nokia Music Store would feature a huge variety of local content from signed artists as well as independent labels. Nokia is slowly making this dream come true with the Independent Artist Club or the Nokia IAC. The site featured here forms Nokia Asia’s collaboration with countries including Singapore, Bangladesh, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
The site features a proprietary web based iAC player as well as options to download songs from artists. What does Nokia ask for in return? Your IMEI number!
Let me quote:
Join Nokia IAC as a VIP member and enjoy the perks – download 10 tracks per month and receive special exclusive offers and invitations! To qualify as a VIP member, you are required to own a Nokia mobile phone and provide us with your IMEI number.
If you do not own a Nokia mobile phone, you can still join as a Normal Member which entitles you to 5 tracks per month.
